The Beer Party, founded in 2015 by Dominik Wlazny aka Marco Pogo, was a small Austrian party with a mixture of satire and serious political aims. Originally launched as a humorous movement, it campaigned for issues such as social justice, education and anti-corruption. It contested the 2024 National Council elections nationwide for the first time, but failed to enter parliament. On February 3, 2025, the party announced that it was withdrawing from active politics and intends to “carry on differently” in the future.
The Beer Party was founded in 2015 by Dominik Wlazny, known as Marco Pogo, the frontman of the punk rock band Turbobier, in Vienna. Initially intended as a satirical movement, it quickly gained popularity and developed a serious political program. Its goal is to develop new solutions based on facts rather than ideologies and to stand against abuse of power and corruption.
In the 2020 Vienna state and municipal elections, the Beer Party received 1.8% of the votes and was able to win several mandates in the district councils. Dominik Wlazny himself became a district councilor in Simmering. In 2022, he ran in the presidential election and achieved third place with 8.3%. In the 2024 National Council election, the Beer Party ran nationwide for the first time but missed entering the parliament with 2.1% of the votes.
The Beer Party advocates for social justice, education, and anti-corruption. It calls for, among other things, a child basic security to combat child poverty, a gradual phase-out of oil and gas, and an educational reform with smaller kindergarten groups and a joint school for ages six to sixteen. Additionally, it advocates for strengthening apprenticeships and improving working conditions in healthcare.
