The FPÖ's worldview is rooted in the 'Third Camp,' combining German-nationalist traditions with a modern focus on 'the indigenous.' Its view of humanity is collectivist and nation-centric: the state's primary role is to protect the interests of the established national community. Central to its ideology is the concept of 'Heimat' (homeland), which it perceives as threatened by globalization and migration. For the FPÖ, freedom primarily means the freedom of the people externally and a reduction of state paternalism internally, as long as this does not impinge on cultural identity issues.
The FPÖ's agenda aims for a radical shift in asylum policy, often under the slogan "Fortress Austria." It primarily targets the working and middle classes by strictly linking social security to citizenship. Economically, the party's stance is ambivalent: it advocates for tax cuts and deregulation but insists on state protection for basic infrastructure. In foreign policy, it champions a strict interpretation of neutrality and acts as a fierce critic of deeper EU integration, prioritizing the sovereignty of nation-states.
The FPÖ occupies the role of an anti-establishment force, portraying itself as the voice of 'the people' against a perceived elite in politics and media. Strategically, it uses instruments of direct democracy to challenge the parliamentary system. Its relationship with state institutions is marked by skepticism, often expressed through harsh criticism of the judiciary or public broadcasting. As a stable force within the party system, it operates alternately as a power-conscious governing party and a fundamental opposition, creating a permanent tension between system participation and system criticism.
We surveyed voters across all parties within the PolitPro community about their stances on key political issues. The bars illustrate the range of opinions among FPÖ supporters. A shorter bar indicates a more homogeneous opinion among supporters. Where available, the party's official position is displayed as a circle.
These values are derived from data provided by FPÖ supporters on the PolitPro platform. While this data is not a traditional representative random sample, the high number of participants provides deep insights into the priorities and values of the active voter base.
