The KPÖ's worldview is rooted in the Marxist analysis of class society. It views social inequality not as accidental, but as an inherent consequence of capitalism. Its understanding of humanity is collectivist: the common good and solidarity take precedence over individual profit-seeking. The party aims for a fundamental transformation of the economic system, where key industries and essential public services are socially controlled. Today, it clearly distances itself from Stalinism, emphasizing a grassroots democratic and emancipatory orientation.
The party intensely focuses on the "social question," particularly the right to housing. It advocates for strict rent caps and a significant expansion of public housing. Its policies primarily target low-income earners, those in precarious employment, and marginalized communities. A distinctive feature is that its elected representatives forgo a large portion of their salaries, channeling these funds into social welfare initiatives. This positions the party as a credible advocate for the "common people," demanding a redistribution of wealth from the top down, as well as free access to education and healthcare.
Strategically, the KPÖ operates as an extra-parliamentary force, seeking to pave its way into state and federal politics through municipal successes. It employs "niche Marxism," downplaying long-term ideological goals in favor of concrete, everyday assistance. While it uses parliamentarism as a platform, its relationship with the liberal rule of law remains analytically detached: it often views it as an instrument for preserving existing power structures. Nevertheless, it operates strictly within democratic rules and relies on grassroots movements rather than revolutionary overthrow scenarios.
We surveyed voters across all parties within the PolitPro community about their stances on key political issues. The bars illustrate the range of opinions among KPÖ supporters. A shorter bar indicates a more homogeneous opinion among supporters. Where available, the party's official position is displayed as a circle.
These values are derived from data provided by KPÖ supporters on the PolitPro platform. While this data is not a traditional representative random sample, the high number of participants provides deep insights into the priorities and values of the active voter base.
