The party views the state as a sanctuary for the Croatian nation, whose roots it sees in the Catholic faith and an idealization of the country's founding years. A central driving force is 'lustration' – a radical reckoning with communist legacies. Its worldview is traditionally oriented: the family is considered the fundamental unit of society, while supranational influences are often perceived as a threat to national sovereignty.

The NHR's agenda primarily targets socially conservative voters, patriots, and those who accuse established center-right parties of selling out national interests. It advocates for a strict immigration policy, the protection of unborn life, and a revisionist approach to historical narratives. Economically, the party leans towards protectionist policies to safeguard domestic resources. Its ultimate goal is to establish a cultural hegemony of national identity, opposing LGBTQ+ rights and further EU integration to preserve cultural distinctiveness.
