The KSČM's worldview is rooted in Marxism and a radical critique of capitalism. It aims to overcome the existing market economy in favor of a nationalized economy and social equality. It cultivates a nostalgic narrative regarding the socialist era and defines the state as a central guiding force that must defend the interests of the working class against global capital interests. National sovereignty and a pronounced anti-militarism form the cornerstones of its self-conception.

The party focuses on significant wealth redistribution from top to bottom, strengthening the welfare state, and protecting domestic industries. Its core constituency primarily comprises the older generation, former state employees, and individuals in economically disadvantaged regions who feel marginalized or left behind since the post-1989 transition. In foreign policy, it advocates for withdrawal from NATO, distancing itself from Brussels' EU policies, and instead seeks closer ties with Russia and China to foster a multipolar world order.

For a long time, the KSČM was considered a stabilizing force on the far-left, yet it remained isolated due to its refusal to fully distance itself from its totalitarian past. Within the political system, it acts as a systemic critic, utilizing democratic institutions while fundamentally questioning their liberal orientation. While it was once a reliable opposition force, it now struggles for relevance in a fragmented party system where populist movements are increasingly siphoning off its electorate.
