The party's foundation is built upon six core values: courage, generosity, transparency, humility, humor, and empathy. Alternativet views the state not merely as an administrator, but as an enabler of systemic transformation. Its worldview is deeply rooted in ecological principles.
The agenda focuses on a radical green transition, the reduction of working hours, and a redefinition of economic success beyond GDP. The party advocates for drastic CO2 reduction and the protection of biodiversity. Its target groups primarily include urban demographics, young voters, and academics who are dissatisfied with the traditional party system. In terms of social policy, it champions unconditional support and social security to alleviate societal pressure to perform and to foster creativity and civic engagement.
Strategically, Alternativet acts as a "challenger from within," aiming to disrupt Denmark's established political culture through new debate formats and enhanced citizen participation. It leverages the parliamentary system to introduce unconventional solutions into the discourse, often transcending the traditional left-right political spectrum. Despite its role as a system critic, the party clearly commits to rule-of-law institutions, yet calls for a democratization of decision-making processes to rebuild trust between citizens and politics through radical transparency.
