The DF's worldview is rooted in an exclusive nationalism: Denmark belongs to the Danes. The party views Danish culture, language, and the Lutheran Church as threatened foundational pillars that must be protected against external influences – particularly Islam and globalization. Its conception of humanity is distinctly collectivist-national.
The DF's agenda primarily focuses on 'Fortress Denmark,' prioritizing a zero-tolerance immigration policy, rigorous deportations, and robust border protection. Socially, the party champions the 'common people,' particularly pensioners and low-income earners, by advocating for generous state welfare provisions – funded through cuts to development aid and integration programs. It also champions traditional law-and-order issues and positions itself as the voice of rural communities against the liberal urban elites.
Strategically, the DF acts as an ideological pace-setter, having shifted Denmark's political discourse significantly to the right, far beyond its proportional size. For a long time, it served as a professional kingmaker for center-right governments, deliberately avoiding ministerial posts to maintain its distinct opposition role. Its approach to the rule of law is characterized by a strong emphasis on popular sovereignty.
