The PfE's foundation is built upon staunch national sovereignty. The group rejects the idea of a European federal state, instead advocating for a 'Europe of Nations'. Its worldview is characterized by a pronounced cultural pessimism, viewing European civilization as threatened by migration and globalization. The state and nation are understood as ethnocultural entities, whose primary duty is to protect their own borders and traditions from external influences.
The agenda focuses on strict immigration policies and opposing the 'Green Deal'. The PfE advocates for a radical reduction in immigration and reinforced border security. Its target audience includes citizens who feel unrepresented by the established elites, as well as industries burdened by environmental regulations. Economically, the group champions protectionism, while socially, it defends conservative family structures and traditional values against progressive movements.
Strategically, the PfE acts as a disruptive force within the EU Parliament. It leverages parliamentary institutions to delegitimize the system from within and to pit national interests against the Community method. While it emphasizes formal rule of law, its relationship with democratic oversight mechanisms is often deemed ambivalent by critics. As the third-strongest force in Parliament, it aims to breach the 'cordon sanitaire' of the political center and forge a new right-wing alliance.
