Ensemble is a liberal, pro-European centrist alliance in France. As a broad movement, it combines progressive social approaches with pro-business policies. Its goal is to overcome the traditional left-right political divide through a pragmatic reform agenda.

Values and Worldview

Its foundation is a modern liberalism that intertwines individual freedom with social responsibility. The movement views the state as an enabler, tasked with dismantling barriers to ignite dynamism in the economy and society. A central pillar is its passionate Eurocentrism: a strong France is inextricably linked to a sovereign, integrated European Union. Its worldview is optimistic, forward-looking, and prioritizes reason and technocratic expertise over ideological trench warfare.

Policy Priorities

The agenda focuses on modernizing the labor market, enhancing competitiveness, and making significant investments in education and future technologies. The alliance primarily targets the urban middle class, highly skilled professionals, and entrepreneurs who aim to benefit from globalization. In social policy, it seeks balance through the targeted promotion of equal opportunities ("emancipation"), while in security policy, it champions an effective rule of law. The overarching goal is to transform France into a flexible, start-up nation.

Role in the Political System

Strategically, the alliance occupies the "radical center," thereby disrupting the traditional bipolar dominance of Gaullists and Socialists. It acts as a bulwark against political extremes and positions itself as the sole serious force of reason. Institutionally, it adopts a presidential approach, consistently leveraging the mechanisms of the Fifth Republic to implement reforms, often against opposition. Tensions frequently arise from accusations of an over-concentration of power in the executive and an alienation from rural voter groups.
