Loss of Significance and Internal Tensions
In recent years, LR has lost political influence, which is reflected in weak election results. In the 2019 European elections, the party received only 8.48% of the votes, leading to the resignation of then-party chairman Laurent Wauquiez. Internal tensions arose particularly due to debates about possible alliances with the right-populist National Rally (RN). In 2024, the push by party chairman Éric Ciotti for collaboration with the RN led to his temporary dismissal and expulsion from the party, further exacerbating the internal conflicts.
