The NFP's foundation is rooted in radical anti-fascism and a staunch rejection of neoliberal economic policies. The alliance views the state as an active agent of redistribution and a guarantor of social justice. Its humanistic vision is collectivist, prioritizing solidarity over individual competition. Its ideological framework draws from the legacy of the historic Popular Front of 1936, complemented by modern eco-socialism and a pronounced secularism (laïcité), which radically defends the separation of church and state.
The agenda aims for a significant increase in public spending, a reduction in the retirement age, and a drastic taxation of high net worth individuals. The alliance primarily targets the working class, precariously employed individuals, and young people in urban centers and suburbs. On environmental policy, the bloc advocates for a rapid transition away from fossil fuels, coupled with robust social compensation measures. Internal tensions primarily revolve around foreign policy, particularly concerning the handling of international conflicts and the future direction of the European Union.
Strategically, the NFP acts as a defensive bulwark for the left, aiming to prevent fragmentation under the majority electoral system. It positions itself as a system-critical pole, frequently criticizing the institutions of the Fifth Republic as overly presidential and detached from citizens. While moderate factions seek parliamentary compromise, more radical wings advocate for street mobilization. Its relationship with the rule of law is characterized by the demand for a "Sixth Republic," which seeks a shift of power away from the President and towards the Parliament.
