However, internal tensions led to the split of prominent members like Marion Maréchal, who founded the party Identité-Libertés in October 2024.

Reconquête was founded in December 2021 by Éric Zemmour, a former journalist and political commentator known for his far-right views. The name of the party means 'reconquest' and reflects the goal of strengthening French identity and sovereignty. The party positions itself against immigration and globalization and emphasizes traditional French values.
Election Results and Political Development
In the 2022 presidential election, Éric Zemmour received 7.07% of the votes, which was remarkable for a political newcomer. In June 2024, Reconquête achieved 5.5% of the votes in the European elections, securing five seats in the European Parliament. These results demonstrated the party's potential, even though it lagged behind established far-right parties like the Rassemblement National.
Internal Tensions and Splits
After the 2024 European elections, tensions arose within Reconquête. Marion Maréchal, a prominent figure in the party, called for a coalition with the Rassemblement National, which led to conflicts with Éric Zemmour. As a result, Maréchal was expelled from the party in June 2024 and founded her own political movement called Identité-Libertés in October 2024. These developments weakened Reconquête.
