The AP's worldview is rooted in a defensive nationalism, which perceives Georgian identity as threatened by globalization and liberal Western values. The party sees itself as a protector of the Orthodox Church and traditional family structures. Its understanding of the state is protectionist: for them, sovereignty primarily means preserving cultural distinctiveness and avoiding provocations with the powerful northern neighbor. Here, moral integrity is prioritized over individual liberties.
The political agenda focuses on social justice for the general populace and the protection of national resources. The AP demands substantial state support for low-income groups and opposes the sale of land to foreign entities. In foreign policy, it advocates for "non-alignment" – a departure from Georgia's NATO ambitions – to restore territorial integrity through negotiations with Moscow. Its target demographic includes the rural population and conservative working class who feel marginalized by pro-Western reforms.
Within the Georgian party system, the AP occupies the niche of right-wing, anti-establishment opposition. It skillfully employs populist rhetoric to fuel distrust towards established elites and international organizations. While formally operating within the democratic framework, it is often accused of undermining the country's strategic orientation through its anti-Western propaganda. It acts as a counterweight to liberal market liberalization and serves as a mouthpiece for those who prioritize national stability over Euro-Atlantic integration.
