The Homeland, formerly known as the National Democratic Party of Germany (NPD), is a far-right minor party in Germany. Founded in 1964, it renamed itself to The Homeland in June 2023. The party is classified as extremist by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and aims for a fundamental system change. In January 2024, the Federal Constitutional Court decided to exclude The Homeland from state party funding for six years due to its intention to undermine the free democratic basic order.
The party was founded in 1964 as the National Democratic Party of Germany (NPD) and saw itself as the successor to the German Reich Party. In the 1960s, it achieved some successes at the state level but consistently failed to enter the Bundestag. In June 2023, the NPD renamed itself to The Homeland in order to convey a more modern image.
The Homeland is classified as a far-right party by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution. It agitates against the democratic constitutional state and openly seeks a fundamental system change. Its positions include nationalist and xenophobic content, and it calls for, among other things, Germany's exit from the European Union.
In January 2024, the Federal Constitutional Court decided to exclude The Homeland from state party funding for six years because the party is aimed at undermining or abolishing the free democratic basic order. Additionally, there have been collaborations between The Homeland and the AfD in some local parliaments, which triggered internal party controversies.
We surveyed voters across all parties within the PolitPro community about their stances on key political issues. The bars illustrate the range of opinions among Die Heimat supporters. A shorter bar indicates a more homogeneous opinion among supporters. Where available, the party's official position is displayed as a circle.
These values are derived from data provided by Die Heimat supporters on the PolitPro platform. While this data is not a traditional representative random sample, the high number of participants provides deep insights into the priorities and values of the active voter base.
