The Party for Human, Environment and Animal Protection, known as the Animal Protection Party, was founded in 1993 and advocates for animal protection, environmental protection, and social justice. It demands, among other things, the inclusion of animal rights in the Basic Law, a ban on animal testing and factory farming, as well as the promotion of plant-based nutrition. The party is represented in all 16 federal states with state associations and has continuously held a mandate in the European Parliament since 2014.

The Animal Protection Party was established on February 13, 1993, by nine founding members in Bonn. Its roots lie in the animal rights movement, and it sees itself as its political arm in the German party system. Since its founding, the party has evolved from a single-issue party to a multi-issue party that focuses not only on animal protection but also on environmental and human protection.

The Animal Protection Party pursues a holistic approach that emphasizes the unity of humans, animals, and nature. It demands the inclusion of fundamental rights for animals in the Basic Law, an unconditional ban on animal testing, and the abolition of factory farming. In addition, it advocates for environmental protection, social justice, and peace. Its motto is: 'Vote with compassion – take a stand for humans, environment, and animals!'

The Animal Protection Party is represented in all 16 federal states with state associations and has various sub-organizations. The federal executive board consists of several chairpersons, general secretaries, and advisors, all of whom work voluntarily. The party members come from different movements, including animal protection, environmental and nature conservation, as well as human rights and peace movements.

Election Results and Mandates
In the 2021 federal election, the Animal Protection Party achieved its best result to date with 1.5% of the vote and thus became the strongest extra-parliamentary opposition force in Germany. Since 2014, it has consistently held a mandate in the European Parliament. At the municipal level, members of the party are engaged in various city councils, municipal councils, as well as district and county councils.
