The KD's foundation is built upon a deeply rooted patriotism that prioritizes national identity over supranational ties. Its worldview is shaped by the unity of the Greek nation and the Orthodox Church. It views the state as a bulwark against external cultural influences and economic globalization. At its core, it is driven by the conviction that Greece must steer its own destiny without interference from the EU or international financial institutions.
The party's agenda focuses on a "Greece First" policy. Its core demands include a zero-tolerance strategy on illegal migration, significant investment in the military, and the protection of traditional family structures. Economically, it advocates for relief for domestic businesses and a protectionist trade policy. Its target audience primarily consists of conservative rural voters who feel abandoned by the established elites in Athens and Brussels.
Strategically, the KD operates as an anti-establishment force, utilizing the parliamentary system to challenge the status quo. Its relationship with state institutions is ambivalent: while it seeks to strengthen the executive for maintaining order, it often distrusts the judiciary and media when they impede its national objectives. It functions as a corrective force on the far-right, pushing established conservative parties further right and shifting political discourse in that direction.
