The party's foundation is rooted in democratic socialism and eco-socialism. It sees itself as an intellectual and pragmatic counterweight to the populist left. Its ethos is shaped by collective solidarity and the conviction that the state must actively dismantle social inequality. Unlike more radical forces, it firmly commits to European integration, yet calls for a transformation of the EU towards a more socially just union. Justice, in its view, is defined not only economically but also as the protection of individual liberties.
Néa Aristerá's agenda focuses on strengthening the welfare state, advocating for higher minimum wages, and massively expanding renewable energy sources. The party primarily targets the urban precarious, academics, and disillusioned voters of the traditional left. A core concern is the "green transition," designed to mitigate social hardship. It champions progressive tax policies and the protection of public goods from privatization. In doing so, it fills the void between radical protest and a pragmatic, governable political platform suited for the modern world of work.
Strategically, the party serves as a parliamentary anchor for left-wing policy expertise. It operates within the framework of democratic institutions and the rule of law, emphasizing the importance of evidence-based policy and diligent work over rhetorical escalation. Its goal is to overcome the fragmentation of the progressive camp in Greece without succumbing to populist tendencies. Within the political landscape, it assumes the role of a bridge-builder, seeking center-left coalitions to form a stable alternative to conservative forces.
