JV's foundation is built upon modern conservatism, characterized by pragmatism rather than ideology. The party views Latvia as an integral part of the Western community of values. Its ethos emphasizes individual responsibility, with the state acting as a guarantor of stability and the rule of law. A central pillar is the defense of national sovereignty against external influences, coupled with a deep commitment to liberal democracy and the protection of Western institutions.
The agenda is consistently focused on economic competitiveness and security. JV advocates for an austere fiscal policy, investments in national defense, and a reduction in energy dependence. Its target audience primarily includes the urban middle class, academics, and entrepreneurs who prioritize stability over populist experiments. A notable area of tension is the balancing act between necessary social reforms and the dogma of fiscal discipline, as well as the integration of society while simultaneously strengthening the Latvian language.
Strategically, JV assumes the role of an "anchor" within Latvia's fragmented party system. As an experienced governing force, it often moderates complex coalitions and ensures continuity in foreign policy. Its relationship with state institutions is uncompromisingly pro-state.
