The BEP's foundation is a synthesis of Moldovan sovereignism and a profound skepticism towards European integration. Its ideology is shaped by a conservative worldview, where family and church serve as society's moral anchors. The state is perceived as a protective force against perceived cultural encroachment from the West. For this alliance, patriotism signifies not only love for the homeland but explicitly the rejection of unification with Romania and the preservation of an independent, eastward-leaning identity.
The agenda centers on economic stability through affordable energy imports and preferential market access to the Eurasian Economic Union. Its target audience primarily includes the rural population, the working class, and the Russian-speaking minority who feel disenfranchised by the capital's pro-European trajectory. Socially, the alliance advocates for robust state intervention and increased pensions. A central pillar is also the protection of "traditional values," which manifests in strident rhetoric against liberal societal models and LGBTQ+ rights.
Strategically, the BEP acts as a populist counterweight to the pro-Western reform course. It exploits the deep fissures within Moldovan society to position itself as a guarantor of peace and neutrality – where neutrality is often interpreted as strategic distance from NATO and proximity to Eastern security frameworks. Its relationship with rule-of-law institutions is fraught with tension.
