Partidul Democrația Acasă

Democracy at Home Party

The PDA (Partidul Democrația Acasă) is a Unionist and right-wing populist party in Moldova. It positions itself as a radical extra-parliamentary force advocating for unification with Romania and an uncompromising fight against corruption through systemic change.

Values and Worldview

The PDA's worldview is rooted in Unionism – the conviction that Moldova is historically and culturally inseparable from Romania. The party often views the Moldovan state in its current form as provisional or failed. Its perception of the political class is marked by a deep distrust of the established political elite. It advocates for moral regeneration and a strong national consciousness, considering Romanian identity as the fundamental basis for prosperity and the rule of law.

Policy Priorities

The PDA's central demand is "Unirea" (unification), meaning accession to Romania, to bring Moldova under the protective umbrella of the EU and NATO. Socially, the party champions populist themes, presenting itself as an advocate for the "common people" against a corrupt oligarchy. Its target audience primarily includes young, patriotic voters and the diaspora who seek rapid Western integration without the lengthy reform process of the Moldovan state. The PDA calls for a radical purge of the judiciary and the systematic confiscation of illegally acquired assets.

Role in the Political System

Strategically, the PDA often acts as a provocateur and a protest movement. While formally committed to the rule of law, its rhetoric aggressively challenges existing institutions, which it views as infiltrated by corrupt networks. Its role within the political system is that of a corrective force from the right flank: it pressures moderate pro-European forces to adopt a clearer stance against Russia and foster closer ties with Bucharest, yet its radical approach often leaves it isolated.
