The foundation of the PN rests on a pronounced paternalism and the promise of order. Its worldview is characterized by deep distrust of the established political class. The party promotes an image of the state as a "strong provider" that must defend Moldova's sovereignty against external influences. Ideologically, it navigates a tension between Soviet nostalgia and a modern, anti-corruption populism.
The PN's agenda focuses on combating corruption and strengthening local governance. It positions itself as the voice of rural regions, particularly the North. Economically, it advocates for state intervention in price control and robust social security. In foreign policy, it champions pragmatic equidistance but often favors closer ties with Russia. Its primary target audience consists of voters who feel disenfranchised by reforms emanating from the capital.
Strategically, the PN acts as a disruptive force within the Moldovan party system. It employs sharp rhetoric against institutions it perceives as "captured," frequently drawing accusations of right-wing populism. Its relationship with the rule of law is ambivalent: while demanding judicial independence, its leaders often rely on charismatic personalization rather rather than institutional processes. It frequently serves as a kingmaker or a crucial swing vote between the major political blocs.
