The PSRM's worldview is a blend of Soviet nostalgia and Orthodox tradition. At its core, it rejects Western liberal individualism, championing instead a collectivist understanding of the state. The party defines Moldovan identity in opposition to Romanian influence and sees the state as a guardian of Christian values and the traditional family. For the PSRM, sovereignty primarily entails neutrality towards NATO, coupled with deep cultural and political ties within the Eurasian space.
The PSRM's agenda primarily targets the rural population, pensioners, and Russian-speaking minorities. Economically, it advocates for a robust welfare state, price controls, and the nationalization of strategic sectors. On social policy, the party maintains a strictly value-conservative stance, actively opposing liberal reforms in civil rights. A central objective is accession to the Eurasian Economic Union and the preservation of Russian influence, which it views as a guarantor of affordable energy and national stability.
Strategically, the PSRM functions as the strongest counterforce to pro-European reform movements. It leverages its deep roots within state structures and close ties to religious institutions to steer the system towards a form of managed conservatism. Its relationship with the rule of law is often fraught, as it frequently regards institutions as instruments of political power. Within Moldova's political landscape, the party occupies the role of safeguarding a status quo that aims to bridge the post-Soviet legacy with national independence.
