The SGP is a strictly conservative, Calvinist party in the Netherlands. As the oldest existing party in the country, it pursues a theocratically-oriented policy that views the Word of God as the sole guideline for state action and consistently rejects modern societal liberalization.

The SGP's foundation is radical Protestantism. The party views the state as a servant of God, tasked with embedding biblical commandments into society. Its anthropology is shaped by the sinfulness of the individual and the absolute sovereignty of God. Nation and tradition are inextricably linked to the Christian faith, and the party rejects a strict separation of church and state: while the state should not govern the church, its laws must be strictly aligned with the Bible.

Beyond ethical issues, the SGP pursues a restrictive migration policy and maintains a skeptical stance towards the EU to preserve national sovereignty.

Despite its dogmatic rigidity, it is often seen as a "constructive opposition" that respects the rule of law but subordinates it to divine law.
