Lewica's foundation is built upon the vision of a secular, inclusive state. Its worldview is rooted in social justice and the belief in state responsibility for the common good. It breaks with Poland's traditional, Catholic-conservative societal norms, championing individual rights, anti-discrimination, and a strict separation of church and state. The party's emancipatory view of humanity posits that every citizen, regardless of origin, religion, or orientation, should enjoy equal opportunities for self-realization within a solidaristic community.
Lewica's agenda focuses on expanding the welfare state and implementing progressive social reforms. Key demands include the liberalization of abortion rights, the introduction of same-sex marriage, and the strengthening of workers' rights. The party actively campaigns against precarious employment and for affordable housing. Its target demographic includes the urban intelligentsia, young voters, women, and the traditional working class who feel unrepresented by the economic liberal policies of other parties. The ecological transformation of the economy is also a central theme.
Within the Polish party system, Lewica operates as the progressive counterweight to the dominant right-conservative bloc. Its strategy aims to shift the liberal center leftwards and champion issues often considered taboo by conservative forces. Despite internal tensions between its post-communist heritage and burgeoning youth activism, it serves as a steadfast defender of the rule of law. It champions judicial independence and views European integration as an indispensable anchor for Poland's democratic stability.
