The ĽSNS is a far-right, ultranationalist party in Slovakia. It combines radical Euroscepticism with a profound rejection of minorities and ideologically invokes the clerical-fascist Slovak state of World War II. It is widely considered anti-democratic.

Values and Worldview

The foundation of the ĽSNS is rooted in an ethnic nationalism that perceives Slovak identity as an endangered asset. The party espouses an authoritarian view of the state and a Christian fundamentalist understanding of humanity. Central to its ideology is the glorification of the First Slovak Republic (1939–1945), which experts interpret as a neo-Nazi tendency. The state is thus defined not as a pluralistic framework, but as a protective power for a homogeneous "national community" against external influences and internal "enemies."

Policy Priorities

The agenda is characterized by fierce anti-establishment rhetoric and a promise to enforce "law and order" through draconian measures. The party specifically targets the Roma minority, migrants, and the LGBTQ+ community. In foreign policy, it advocates for withdrawal from NATO and the EU to achieve complete sovereignty. Its primary audience consists of people in economically disadvantaged regions and voters who feel alienated from the liberal values of the West, seeking simple, radical solutions.

Role in the Political System

Strategically, the ĽSNS operates as a fundamental opposition to Slovakia's parliamentary system. It exploits democratic institutions to delegitimize them from within and erode trust in the rule of law. Despite legal attempts to ban it and criminal convictions of its leaders, the party adheres to an aggressive strategy of provocation. While largely isolated within the party system, it acts as a catalyst for radicalization, pushing other conservative forces further to the right.
