Reform UK's foundation is built on a deep distrust of the political establishment ("Westminster"). The party champions a philosophy of individual responsibility and a state that withdraws from citizens' lives. Its worldview is characterised by a strong patriotism: Great Britain is seen as a sovereign island nation whose identity must be completed by Brexit. For them, freedom primarily means liberation from bureaucratic shackles, whether imposed by the EU or through domestic regulations.
The agenda focuses on the promise of "Net Zero Migration" to alleviate pressure on infrastructure and public services. Economically, the party advocates for drastic tax cuts and deregulation to stimulate growth. Its target audience is the "silent majority" – primarily the working class and lower-middle class in economically deprived regions who feel abandoned by both the Conservatives and Labour. Furthermore, it rejects climate policy regulations, deeming them economically detrimental.
Strategically, Reform UK operates as a disruptive challenger. It leverages the UK's first-past-the-post electoral system to exert pressure on the Conservative Party and push it further to the right. Its relationship with institutions is ambivalent: while emphasising national sovereignty, it attacks institutions such as public service broadcasting or the electoral system as being in need of reform. It sees itself not merely as a political party, but as a movement for fundamental transformation of British democracy.
